Warrandyte’s answer to “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, watch as billy carters compete for immortality in the derby that delivers epic thrills and lots of great prizes and trophies!

Registration: 3.00pm
Races: 3.30pm - 5.00pm

Location: Police Street, Warrandyte

Who can enter: Ages 8 – 15, plus a race for parents.

Registration: Each driver must register online separately (form below) and pay a non-refundable entry fee of $10. One cart per driver. No sharing carts this year please.

Applications close: 29 March 2025

Prizes: First, second and third, best presented and participation prizes will be awarded

Rules and regulations:

All Carts and Drivers must be checked by officials prior to racing. An official may refuse to allow the cart or driver to participate in the Billycart Derby. The decision to refuse to allow a cart or driver to participate is final.

Drivers

  • Participants/drivers must be between 8 years and 15 years, 11 months and 30 days old on the day, or a parent of an entrant

  • Protective clothing (denim is the minimum), including full length pants and full length sleeves, must be worn

  • Full face helmet and protective gloves must be worn,

  • No open footwear

  • One driver registered per cart 

Carts

  • Wheel size must not exceed 16”

  • Billycarts must be a home-made design, no Go-Kart frames

  • All carts must have working brakes (with a minimum of 2 wheels braked)

  • No rope or foot steering will be allowed

  • Billycarts to have no sharp protrusions either inside or out

  • Billycarts to have no extra ballast

  • Drivers must be in a sitting position, no head first

Safety

If officials think that your cart is not suitable, they will not accept your entry.  If you’d like to speak to organisers while you are building your cart to make sure it’s safe, please email contact@warrandytefestival.org.

Your participation is at the sole discretion of the organiser whose decision is final. No appeals folks!

First Aid will be available at the event.

Drivers participate at their own risk.

  • While an official can refuse to allow a cart to participate, this power does not mean that the Warrandyte Festival Committee warrants that a cart that participates is designed and built appropriately for competing in the Derby.

  • The Committee does not assume any duty towards a participant to ensure that their carts are designed and built appropriately.

The Warrandyte Festival Committee requests that it be made aware of any situations or incidents during the event. An incident log is available to all attendees and participants.

Smoking, vaping, alcohol and drugs are not permitted at the event.

General waiver   

The Warrandyte Festival Committee Inc. (the Committee) bears no responsibility for any injury, death, disability, property damage or any psychological injury to the participants of the events in the Festival.

The Committee advises all festival attendees / participants that they and any of their legal wards under the age of eighteen (18) will not have any rights to pursue any civil or criminal damages against the committee.
